AN OAK PARK FESTIVAL THEATRE AND OPEN DOOR THEATER CO-BENEFIT PRODUCTION

DAUGHTERS OF IRE

Created and Performed by Savanna Rae
Directed by Carin Silkaitis

Ferocious, fragile and funny women from Irish legend claw their way into 2018. A modern Seanchai brings to life women from Ireland’s Ulster Cycle, including Scathach, Queen Medb, and Dierdre of the Sorrows.

Savanna Rae has crafted a script that’s biting, fierce, hilarious, sexy, and unsentimental—not to mention full of contradictions and incisive feminist political and cultural analysis. At first glance one might ask: what is the relationship between women of ancient Irish myth and contemporary social justice? With Daughters of Ire, Rae illustrates the powerful link between how we construct women of the past (fictional and actual) and how we imagine possibilities for self-identifying women in the future

This production is made possible through the generosity of Producer Tim Klein, and is a brought to you as a co-benefit with Open Door Theater. Oak Park Festival Theatre and Open Door Theatre are both proud non-profits serving the Oak Park River Forest area.

REVIEWS:

Daughters of Ire hits you like a splash of alcohol on a still-open wound. It will make you hurt. Better to cry than blink; You don’t want to miss one second. The play is rapid, engaging, and bold. Daughters has the power to affect change – and seeing it is an experience filled with so much heart and passion that it truly could guide the next several thousand years in a brighter direction. See it early, and see it soon – as you will surely want to see it again. “ – The Hawk Chicago
