CALLING ALL TEENS!

This summer Oak Park Festival Theatre is offering
four unique training weeks for aspiring middle school and high school performers.

Each week promises to be both challenging and fun as youth between the ages of 13-18 develop specific performance skills essential to their development as actors.

JULY 8-12    STAGE COMBAT 101 with Andrew Rathgeber

Learn basic (and safe!) techniques for staging fights that looks dangerous without putting anyone in danger.  You’ll be taught by a certified professional in the art and craft of hand-to-hand combat as well as rapier and dagger. 

JULY 15-19  PHYSICAL THEATRE and COMEDY with Adrian Danzig

Come to this training session ready to play!  Through ensemble-building games and exercises designed to deepen your connection to your physical instrument (your body), this session will explore the limitless ways we embody a character through physical action.

JULY 22-26  EXPLORE SHAKESPEARE’S COMEDIES (A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Comedy of Errors)

Shakespeare wrote in a variety of styles and his comedies include some of his most beloved (and fun to perform) characters!  By looking closely at A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Comedy of Errors you will learn how to analyze a scene, get inside these iconic characters, and recite Shakespeare’s text “trippingly on the tongue”!

JULY 29-AUGUST 2  EXPLORE SHAKESPEARE’S TRAGEDIES (Romeo & Juliet and Macbeth)

Shakespeare’s tragedies can take an audience from delirious heights to harrowing lows. In this session you’ll visit Italy (Romeo & Juliet) and Scotland (Macbeth) and learn how to use the text to find the character’s motivation and connect yourself as a performer to these timeless stories.

Days: Monday-Friday

Time: 12:30pm-3:30pm

Location: Stevenson Community Center 49 Lake Street, Oak Park

Fee: $180/week for Residents, $200/week for Non-Residents

Fee includes a t-shirt and daily snack.
