Dear Friends,

Each night during our run Twelfth Night when Luke said to Patrick: “I can no more answer make than thanks, and thanks, and thanks again,” I echoed the sentiment but the object of my gratitude was, as always, you.

It is you, our loyal and devoted audience, who have been with us every mile during my decade as Artistic Director.

It is you, our generous patrons, who helped us long ago when our fortunes were at their last gasp.

And it is you, our wonderful friends, with whom I am delighted to share the excellent news that our 2013 summer season was the BEST in my ten years with the theater. With Amadeus shattering box office records night after night and happy crowds returning for Twelfth Night, our 2013 productions were the best attended in many, many years. And, although our final figures are yet to be tallied, those throngs meant we generated our greatest recent summer revenue as well.

Of course, ticket sales, even in the numbers we saw this summer, account for only a small fraction of revenue needed for us to continue as Oak Park’s only and the Midwest’s oldest outdoor professional classical theatre.

And so, and Sir Toby would surely second this, a toast to you, to us! Raise your glasses to ten tough and terrific years! Salute the spectacularly successful summer just past! And drink the health of our coming 40th anniversary season! As you do, be very sure to acknowledge your own enormous contribution to the celebration.

We are looking forward to a most exciting year, culminating next summer with a summer of masterpieces:  Hamlet directed by Lavina Jadwali followed by Kevin Theis’s production The Importance of Being Earnest. Make plans now to join us for more magical nights under a canopy of summer stars.
