6:30pm before the OPFT production of Two Gentlemen of Verona

Working in conjunction with OPFT, this summer the Viola Project expanded its programing to the Oak Park Community!

Now, for the first time, VP has held TWO simultaneous week long summer camps, one in Chicago and the other in Oak Park. Working with a common curriculum concentrating on Two Gentlemen of Verona, the two camps explored the text and the issues it brings up. They have had an exciting week with guest speakers from IMPACT CHICAGO, where they learned to speak up for themselves, a First Folio workshop hosted by OPFT Artistic Associate Belinda Bremner, and a hand to hand Stage Combat workshop taught by Chloe Baldwin from R&D Choreography!

Today both camps have come together and are spending the day on the OPFT stage of Two Gentlemen of Verona, sharing their experiences from the week, getting to know one another, and preparing their scenes for a final performance on stage tonight at 6:30pm before the OPFT Two Gentlemen of Verona production.

The Viola Project is a ten year old Chicago company that uses the works of William Shakespeare to unite and empower girls so they may grow up to be whoever they want to be. The Viola Project provides a space for girls aged 10-16 to come together and explore classic texts while engaging in a vibrant discussion of contemporary issues facing girls and women.
